The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nadowli-Kaleo, Madam Mary Haruna has called on students of the Nadowli-Kaleo Students’ Union at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), Wa Campus, to uphold unity, academic excellence, and discipline as they pursue their educational goals.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Union, the DCE described the occasion as a significant step toward strengthening solidarity among students from the district. She commended the formation of the Union, noting that it reflects a shared commitment to progress and collective development.

The DCE congratulated the SRC President-elect, Diboro Iassc, describing his election as a proud achievement for both him and the Nadowli-Kaleo District. She urged members of the Union to give him their full support, stressing that his success would create opportunities for other students from the district, while failure could hinder such prospects.

She further encouraged the students to see themselves as brothers and sisters and to support one another both academically and socially. According to her, unity among the students is key to their growth and success.

Touching on the realities of the job market, the DCE noted that increasing competition demands excellence, discipline, and commitment from students. She therefore urged them to study diligently and distinguish themselves in their respective fields.

The DCE also emphasised the importance of giving back to their communities. She advised the students to support their younger brothers and sisters in Senior High School (SHS) and Nursing Training Schools (NHS), particularly during holidays, by organising extra classes and offering academic guidance.

Drawing from her personal experience as a former student of Kaleo Senior High Technical School, the DCE recounted how university students from the district used to return home during vacations to provide extra tuition. She noted that the initiative greatly contributed to their academic success. She specifically mentioned Professor Damascus Tuorosong as one of those who supported them through such efforts.

She assured the students that the District Assembly remains open to their concerns and ideas, adding that their contributions toward the development of the district would always be welcomed.

The DCE also cautioned the students against drug abuse, describing it as a destructive habit that undermines academic performance and jeopardises the future of young people.

The event concluded with a call for the Union to grow into a strong and exemplary body that would inspire others, as the DCE expressed optimism about its potential impact on both the students and the district at large.
