The world is once again standing at a crossroads, and history will not be kind if silence prevails. The recent unilateral military actions ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump—particularly the unlawful strikes and the dramatic removal of Venezuela’s first family, have drawn widespread condemnation, and rightly so. These actions are not only reckless; they are unconstitutional, destabilising, and dangerously dismissive of international law.

Across the globe, political leaders, legal experts, and ordinary citizens have raised alarm over what many have described as a clear violation of national sovereignty. The forced removal of Venezuela’s president and his family, carried out without the approval of the United Nations or any recognised international legal body, represents a troubling return to the era of gunboat diplomacy—where might is mistaken for right.

Several critics have pointed to past unlawful strikes as sobering examples of where this path leads. From Iraq to Libya, from Afghanistan to Syria, American interventions justified under the banners of “restoring order” or “protecting democracy” have consistently left behind fractured states, humanitarian crises, and generations scarred by violence.

There is no credible record of any U.S. military intervention that has genuinely repaired the perceived damage of the countries it claimed to save. Instead, those nations were left weaker, more divided, and more unstable than before America stepped in.

This raises a fundamental and unavoidable question: why should the United States not seek approval from the appropriate international bodies to address the alleged crimes Venezuela is said to have committed? Institutions such as the International Criminal Court and the United Nations exist precisely to prevent unilateral actions that could spiral into global conflict. Or is America now suggesting that any country, based on mere allegations, can take up arms against another sovereign state? If that is the precedent being set, then no nation is safe.

International law is not optional, nor is it a tool to be invoked only when convenient. Allowing one powerful nation to act as prosecutor, judge, and executioner undermines the very foundation of global order. It sends a dangerous signal that diplomacy, due process, and multilateralism no longer matter.

Even more alarming is the silence—or timid caution—of parts of the international community. History has repeatedly shown that global conflicts do not begin with thunderous explosions alone, but with quiet complicity. If the world sits aloof and allows Trump to continue this barbaric campaign of attacks, then the blood that may soon be spilt will not be on his hands alone. It will be on the conscience of a world that chose comfort over courage.

The trajectory is deeply worrying. Unchecked unilateralism, escalating military bravado, and blatant disregard for international norms are the exact ingredients that have ignited global wars in the past. A Third World War will not announce itself politely; it will emerge from accumulated acts of lawlessness tolerated by silence.

The world must speak—clearly, firmly, and collectively. This is not about defending Venezuela or condemning America as a nation; it is about defending the rule of law and preserving global peace. If international institutions are rendered irrelevant and brute force becomes the default response to political disagreements, then humanity is marching blindly toward catastrophe.

The warning signs are flashing. To ignore them now is to invite a future where the world bleeds—needlessly, violently, and irreversibly.
